Abstract The size-dependent buckling problem of cracked micro- and nanocantilevers, which have many applications as sensors actuators, is studied by the stress-driven nonlocal theory elasticity Bernoulli–Euler beam model. presence crack modeled assuming that sections at left right sides are connected a rotational spring. compliance spring, relates slope discontinuity bending moment cross section, related to length using method energy consideration fracture mechanics. equations solved separately, variationally consistent constitutive boundary continuity conditions imposed close problem. Novel insightful results presented about effects location, nonlocality on critical loads mode shapes, also for higher modes buckling. present model converge those intact nanocantilevers when goes zero large-scale cantilever beams parameter vanishes.
